What makes you stick out as a future official?
Most people join a clan and want to work their way through the ranks, one day becoming a staff member of the clan. This is normal, it doesn't make you power hungry or anything like that. Some people want what they deserve and some people want to be someone that works hard for the clan.
I put together this little post because I am up really early and I felt like giving some insight on little things that are noticed when trying to figure out the person we will give a shot at becoming an official.
- Well-rounded activity
In game, IRC, TS, and forums. Some examples are being at mostly every weekend event, being in the clan chat whenever you are in game (Chain Is Law), idling in TS/IRC even if you aren't online (BNC's help for IRC, ask an official on how to set one up), participating in conversations in TS and IRC when you are online, and posting on the forums daily (create discussion/add to every discussion).
- Positively being known throughout the clan
This is kind of like applying for a job in the real world, you have two applicants - one who went to Harvard and one who went to your local no name community college, who are you going to hire? The Harvard student. Basically if you make an effort to become known throughout the clan it makes promoting you an easier task. In my opinion you shouldn't need to put to much work into "becoming known" - we are a smaller clan so by simply completing the first point in this post you will achieve this. One tip for doing this is using the same "alias" on every forum of communication through the clan, for example I go by "Chain" on the forums, "Chain" on ts, "Chain Is Law" on RS, and "[CP]Chain" on IRC, you get the picture.
- The Hero stage/Loyalty
In reality, we don't even start evaluating you as someone we look into as a staff member until you reach Hero. This is because you can not accurately judge someone on how well they work with others in the clan until they have reached a certain amount of time spent in the clan. If we have two candidates that we both think are fit for a job, we would chose the one who has spent more time in the clan, that's just how things work in life - seniority rules. It doesn't mean the person who has spent less time isn't deserving, it just means now is not their time. If anything you need to understand that if you do spend a long amount of time in the clan, you will eventually be rewarded.
- Work as if you were an official
Think about how you can help the clan without needing the power or title to do so. Some examples of this: Helping mass up people for events, recruiting, getting leaks in other clans, and even vidding. Prior knowledge on IRC, TS, forums, or even computers in general will help you. These things make you seem knowledgable with how clans work. It's important for us to know you have an idea on how clans operate before we give you power. Put in the extra work before we "reward" you for it.
- RuneScape Community
Supporting our topics outside of our own forums is huge. It's always nice to have as many people supporting our RSC topics as possible. Whether it's just keeping the topic bumped or countering the bullshit it's just a good feeling when you know anyone who posts something false on our topic will instantly get shut down by a crap load of people.
