So basically the Red Sox have given up on this season and are about to enter a serious rebuild mode after not making the playoffs 3 years in a row ( about to be 4 ). The Red Sox are completely unloading their payroll by trading Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford ( just had surgery ), Josh Beckett, & Nick Punto to the Dodgers in return for James Loney and a few prospects that will probably be good in a few years.

Drunks opinion: Basically everyone is going crazy thinking the sox are nuts with this trade. In my opinion this is probably the best thing they could do. They get a lot of money back that they would have had to pay off which should give them more options for trades during the off season. Even with the money they had spent they knew they wouldn't make it to the playoffs.. Sometimes the chemistry just isn't there.

All in all the short term end will be tough for them but in 2 or 3 years they will be back up in the AL Est again. Plus; with all the money they just unloaded by getting rid of the four above they could be open to some huge contacts and trades during the offseason.

Are any of the guys they're trading away good? I don't watch baseball >.<

The city I live in has a minor league baseball team and it happens to be the high single A club for the Dodgers. I've got to watch a couple of the guys traded to the Redsox the past couple years and they are both really good. Red Sox will look like genius' in a couple years, esp. if Beckett doesn't turn it around and the Dodgers don't win it all.
