My apologies, was 53%, but still, clearly very high.

Your chances of being mugged in London are now [as of 2002] six times greater than in New York. England’s rates of assault, robbery, and burglary are far higher than America’s, and 53 percent of English burglaries occur while occupants are at home, compared with 13 percent in the U.S., where burglars admit to fearing armed homeowners more than the police. In a United Nations study of crime in 18 developed nations published in July, England and Wales led the Western world’s crime league, with nearly 55 crimes per 100 people
Side note: Years do not matter as crime is not affected by this
As you point out: 'where burglars admit to fear armed homeowners'. The only reason America is armed to the teeth is because of fear. I can honestly say there wasn't one time in my whole life of being around I thought: 'wow! Now is a good time to have a gun'.
The US and Western EU are just 2 different places. We have a very good social structure, very high standard of living. People just dont NEED to go out and steal. Isn't it fucked up that you cant feel same in some neighborhoods and you NEED a gun to feel safe? I can honestly say that there isnt one place in the Netherlands that I would be afraid to go too.
In essence this debat isnt how people view gun legislation. It's more about social structure. Because in all honestly if I would live in the states and my neighborhood had high gun voilence: I would want a gun too.
