Bread isn't "fattening" nor is any other type of food. You can still lose weight if your diet consisted of nothing but mcdonalds. If you want to lose weight, you need to cut the calories... In order to lose weight you need to eat at a deficit, so cutting calories is a must.

It all depends on your goals. 500 calories below maintenance isn't starving yourself lol. If he spaces out his meals much more he'll be fine. Eric try eating lean meats instead (turkey, chicken, fish) instead since they have a lot less calories and more protein. They also tend to fill you up more. Try buying a food scale. 112g of chicken is usually 110calories and 23g of protein and it tends to fill me up a lot. Try spacing your meals out more so you're not starving. Substitute the juice for water and you'll have a good 100+ calories to play around with. If you have any questions pm me.

isnt it easier to turn fat into muscle than losing the weight then trying to build muscle.
