Took Matlab freshman year, was pretty aids. As a computer engineer you tend to use more useful coding languages/programs so it becomes pretty irrelevant unless you're trying to do crazy stuff with linear systems and signals (mainly Electrical engineering) or just 3D plotting etc.

Only really had math that was needed for cryptography, so:

- Abstract alegbra (REALLY complex, spend way too much time on this subject)
- Algorithms (mostly RSA, Diffie Hellman)
- Probability (Easy compared to AA)

OT: Never used mathlabs, heard from other students that it wasn't that good though..
Abstract algebra seems abstract. So far I've only studied 1-dimensional analysis and now linear algebra (1st year). Though we won't have to use it as much in biotech/chemical engineering.

Honestly if there's any course you can cram in uni (at least for STEM, I'm sure), it's this one. I learned everything in the course cold (midterm and non-cumulative final) for 6 days and finished with a 3.3. My MecE friend studied for 7 and got a 4. Read your profs notes and do all the practice qs.

Though, I'm not taking a MATlab course. The course I'm taking is "Linear Algebra with Introduction to Computer Tools"

Edit: Our grading system is completely different. On my university we have UK, 3, 4, 5 (UK = failed).

Not looking forward to it. But It'd be cool to master.
